About Candace

Dr. Candace Ayars is a health professions education professor with over 20 years experience in the field of chronic disease risk factors in children. She has been a Topeka resident for 18 years. Along with her husband, John Coleman, who founded his business in Topeka, Candace has formed strong community ties that inspire her commitment to the future of Kansas.

Candace served as Tobacco Use Prevention Director and Healthy Communities Director for Kansas where she was instrumental in obtaining and managing millions of prevention dollars for public health promotion. She dedicated many of her efforts to ensuring that rural communities had access to resources for their residents to be healthy. Candace led the educational efforts of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to support statewide partners in the creation of the Kansas Indoor Clean Air Act of 2010.

A grandmother of two, Candace is concerned about the direction of Kansas under the influence of the current legislature. Her campaign for Kansas Senate is dedicated to restoring responsive representation to District 20 that reflects the preferences and values of the district and not the mandates of the current extreme legislative policy agenda. She is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the legislature focuses on Kansas ideas for Kansas solutions to Kansans’ concerns.
