About Oletha

Oletha Faust-Goudeau was elected to her first term in the Kansas Senate in 2008, making history as the first African American woman to ever serve in the Kansas Senate. She previously served two terms in the Kansas House of Representatives. Oletha represents parts of Wichita in Sedgwick County. Oletha is also Senate Democrats Assistant Minority Leader.

Oletha is a lifelong resident of Wichita, was employed by PCA International for 16 years, and studied at Wichita State University. She has served on many executive boards, including Wichita Habitat for Humanity, Kansas Legal Services and the Wichita Children’s Home Advisory board. 

She has also served on the Advisory Board for KPTS Channel 8, as the Vice President for the Women of Color Association, and is a member of the NAACP, the League of Women Voters, and the Women’s Democratic Club. Oletha is involved with her Neighborhood Association and is a financial Supporter for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Program. 

In the Legislature, Oletha has always been a strong advocate for fairness and equality. She introduced legislation which has been signed into law that extends healthcare benefits to the spouse and children of fallen firefighters.
