About Pat

Senator Pat Pettey is currently serving her third term in the Kansas Senate. She was elected to the Senate in 2012, and previously served in the Kansas House from 1993 to 1996. Between her legislative service, she represented the 6th District on the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Commission.

Pat is a graduate of Turner High School (1964) and hold Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science degrees in Education from the University of Kansas. She also holds an Administration Certification from Emporia State University.

Pat was an educator in Turner School District 202 from 1968 until her retirement in May of 2006. Her commitment to public education is unwavering; as an educator, she served in many leadership roles, including as the Coordinator for the Implementation of At-Risk Preschool for Turner, President of KNEA-Turner USD 202, member of the KCK School Foundation and the Turner High School Early Childhood Development & Services Advisory Board, and lifetime member of the Kansas PTA. She received the Oak Grove Elementary Teacher of the Year Award in 2000.

Pat is member and cantor of Our Lady of Unity Parish/Sacred Heart Church, where her daughters Alicia and Andrea attended school and where Pat served as President of Our Lady of Unity School PTO.

She is very active in her community, serving in various leadership positions on the Homeless Continuum of Care, the Mayor’s Council Against Domestic Violence, the Grinter House Board, the WYCO Library Board, the KCK Women’s Chamber Executive Board, and the Turner Community Connection Board. Her leadership earned her the League of Kansas Municipalities Excellence in Government Award in 2008, and the KS Library Association Presidential Award for Library Advocate in 2015.
